For an atheist such as myself, driving up California Highway One is about as close as I have had to a religious experience. In the 6 or so hours it takes to get to San Jose from Los Angeles, you will experience some of the most breathtaking natural beauty that the U.S.A. has to offer. After taking the 1 to San Jose for my summer job in 2004, I became determined to do it again. Having done so, I am now determined to do it every year. I could spend a lifetime there and never tire of it.

Even while driving up the road, there are countless trailheads right off the road leading up into the mountains. It almost makes me want to move to California.
