Los Angeles is famed for its great Art Deco buildings, constructed in the 30s and 40s. The Griffith Observatory, constructed in the late 1930s, is one such building. Closed in 2002 for renovation, it recently (last month) reopened for tours and visitation. All the parking in the park has been closed off, so we had to take busses up to and back from the observatory.
Needless to say, the building is a glorious example of the smooth, streamlined art deco style. I highly recomend it to anyone interested in the style of architecutre. I plan on visiting again, this time to set up my exposures near the glorious light of sunset.
The skyline of downtown Los Angeles glows in the distance.
The light on the center pillar was actually a lit sign reading "To Telescope".
This picture was quite a chore to take properly, as the observatory was busy that evening. This resulted in many many people walking into, out of, and staying in my frame as I was trying to take the exposure. How inconsiderate! At the top of the stairway, you will be able to make out the blurry shadows of two people that began to descend the stairs as the final seconds of this exposure elapsed.
I wonder if I could sell this image as containing genuine ghosts...
